Readings
Why does the app say it cannot measure my room?
Because it cannot, and neither can any other app on your phone: the iPhone has no humidity sensor. Readings come from Apple Weather, which reports outdoor conditions from nearby stations and models. An app that claims to read your room's humidity from an iPhone is guessing, and Hygrometer would rather tell you what it actually knows.
Why is the humidity different from another weather app?
Sources differ, nearby stations differ, and humidity changes sharply over short distances and short times — a river, a park or a rain shower half an hour ago all move it. Hygrometer shows Apple Weather's value for your coordinates without rounding it into a category.
What is the dew point, and why does the app lead with it?
The dew point is the temperature the air would have to cool to before its water starts condensing. Unlike relative humidity it barely moves over a day, so it is the better measure of how the air feels — and it tells you directly what will fog up: anything colder than that temperature collects water.
What is "water in air"?
Absolute humidity, in grams of water per cubic metre. Relative humidity is a ratio — how close the air is to full — and warm air can hold far more, so 80% at 0°C is drier air than 40% at 25°C. The g/m³ figure is the amount that ratio hides.
Widgets
The widget is empty, or says to open the app.
Widgets draw the reading the app has already fetched, and there is none until the app has run at least once with location access granted or a city chosen. Open the app, let a reading load, and the widget fills in at its next refresh.
How often do widgets update?
They step through the hourly forecast the app cached, and ask iOS for a refresh about once an hour. iOS decides the exact timing based on battery and usage, so it is a schedule, not a promise. Opening the app refreshes them immediately.
The widget is in a different language from the app.
A widget follows the system language rather than the app's own language setting. Change the language in the app's Settings and the widget follows on its next refresh; changing the iPhone's language changes both.
Settings
Can I use Fahrenheit?
Yes — tap °C / °F on the dashboard, or set it in Settings. The choice carries into every screen and every widget.
Can I see a city I am not in?
Tap the place name at the top of the dashboard and search for any city. That override replaces your location until you switch back to Use Current Location.
Why does the app need my location?
Only to know which weather to ask for. The coordinates stay on your device and are never sent to me. See the privacy policy for the detail.
