Thresholds by consequence
Calling a dew point "high" is only useful if it tells you what changes. Each of these levels corresponds to something stopping.
Above 60°F — noticeable
The first level at which people describe the air rather than the temperature. Nothing has failed yet, but evenings feel close and the morning dampness lingers later.
Above 65°F — uncomfortable
Sweat begins to outpace evaporation. Physical work that would be routine in dry air becomes genuinely harder, and glasses fog when stepping out of air conditioning. Laundry hung outdoors will come in damper than it went out if the day does not warm considerably.
Above 70°F — oppressive
Two things fail at once. Cooling by evaporation is barely working, and — because air cannot cool much below its own dew point — the night will not bring relief either. A 72°F dew point means a low near 72°F, whatever the sky does.
This is also the level at which coatings, sealers and concrete start having genuine curing problems, because there is very little headroom left in the air for the water to go into.
Above 75°F — extreme
Rare outside the deep subtropics and unmistakable when it happens. Effectively nothing outdoors dries. Values above 80°F are confined to a handful of coastal regions and are a serious heat concern rather than a comfort one.
What "high" costs you, concretely

The last column is the one that matters for anything that has to dry. At a 75°F dew point the air has less than half the capacity to accept water that it had at 55°F — on an identically hot day. That is why how much water is in the air shows the headroom figure alongside the amount present.
Why it barely falls overnight
A high dew point is stubborn in a way a high temperature is not. Temperature drops as the ground radiates heat away; the dew point only falls if drier air physically replaces the air that is there.
So a muggy afternoon almost always becomes a muggy night. The relative humidity will climb towards 100% as the temperature falls to meet the dew point, but no water has left — which is exactly what the flat line on a dew point graph is showing you.
